All Tessen Lim wants to be is a silversmith, but he finds himself on an unexpected adventure when his brother, the young warlock Shan, convinces him to bind with a stolen solar dragon hatchling. An assassination plot against their family soon forces the brothers to flee their home in search of a safe place for their dragons to grow.
